Generative audio platform Suno is expanding beyond song creation with the launch of "Speech," a new tool designed to generate spoken voices based on written scripts or prompted descriptions. The feature is now available in public beta across Suno’s web and mobile applications.

Unlike conventional text-to-speech engines, Suno’s primary differentiator is its ability to simultaneously produce synthetic voiceovers and accompanying background music within a single cohesive audio track.

Combining Voice and Score

According to Suno, the new tool aims to bridge the gap between spoken-word delivery and musical accompaniment. Users can access the tool by selecting the "Create" tab in the interface and navigating to the "Speech" option.

“Music will always be at the heart of Suno and what we build. At the same time, our vision has always extended to other forms of human expression,” said Suno Chief Product Officer Jack Brody in the announcement. “Today, we’re expanding what’s possible in Suno with Speech: the first audio model that generates voice and music together as one cohesive track.”

While the system is designed to pair speech with musical backing—such as calming melodies behind poetry or high-energy tracks beneath dramatic speeches—the background music remains optional. Creators who only need clean voice recordings can turn off the accompanying soundtrack using an integrated toggle.

Entering a Crowded Market

Speech synthesis via deep learning is an established sector. Google DeepMind has explored speech generation for roughly a decade, Adobe offers dedicated text-to-speech capabilities, and specialized platforms such as ElevenLabs have gained wide adoption since launching in 2023.

By introducing Speech, Suno is broadening its product portfolio into voice acting, storytelling, and narration. The diversification arrives as the company continues to navigate ongoing legal pressure, with its core AI music generation engine having attracted multiple copyright lawsuits from the recording industry.
