Philips Releases Next-Gen Sonicare Smart Toothbrush

Philips has launched its Sonicare Next-Generation DiamondClean 9900 Prestige smart toothbrush in the United States and Europe, following an initial announcement in July. Priced at $379.99, the device is now available ahead of an expanded global rollout slated for 2027. The launch updates Philips' flagship oral hygiene lineup, coming in below the $429.99 launch price of its previous iteration, which remains on sale at a discount.

On-Device Displays and Real-Time AI Adjustments

The Next-Generation DiamondClean 9900 incorporates an integrated touchscreen directly into the handle, allowing users to choose between eight distinct cleaning modes and three intensity presets, including gentle settings tailored for sensitive teeth and gums.

The screen also renders a real-time "12-segment mouth map" dividing the user's teeth into tracked zones. Using motion detection, the interface changes colors to signal when an area has been sufficiently cleaned or if a user needs to revisit a missed spot.

For technique management, the brush pairs Philips' proprietary SenseIQ system with a third-generation AI model. A glowing, color-changing light ring at the base alerts users when they apply excessive force. Beyond visual feedback, the toothbrush automatically adapts its own vibration intensity on the fly based on the user's brushing habits to prevent gum damage and ensure thorough coverage.

The High-End Smart Toothbrush Landscape

The release highlights the ongoing push to embed touchscreens, motion sensors, and machine learning into everyday bathroom appliances. At $379.99, Philips has priced the Next-Generation DiamondClean 9900 below competing premium options in the category, notably Dyson’s $499 CameraJet smart toothbrush, which has encountered operational issues among early adopters.
