OpenAI Upgrades ChatGPT Voice With Workspace Integrations and GPT-6 Models
OpenAI has rolled out a major update to ChatGPT Voice powered by its new GPT-6 family of models, allowing the assistant to interact directly with email, calendars, and Slack.

OpenAI Brings Connected Voice Control to ChatGPT
OpenAI has launched a significant update to ChatGPT Voice, connecting the conversational interface directly to everyday productivity tools. The worldwide rollout links the voice assistant to integrations including email, calendar, and Slack for the first time. The new capabilities are powered by OpenAI's newly introduced GPT-6 model lineup, which includes Astra, Sol, and Luna, and are available immediately through the latest version of the ChatGPT application.
Voice Commands Expand Across Apps, Finance, and ChatGPT Work
Under the update, users can execute complex, cross-service actions entirely through spoken conversation. Beyond standard voice queries like checking the weather or shopping online, the system can inspect calendar schedules, send email correspondence, review finance applications to flag and eliminate duplicate charges, and even generate a functional website equipped with a checkout page.
The voice interface also extends into "ChatGPT Work" across mobile and web platforms. Within this workspace environment, users can generate full documents, slide decks, and spreadsheets by speaking to the model. While OpenAI showcased these capabilities across multiple everyday scenarios in an official demonstration video, the company acknowledged that handing software-level execution to an automated voice interface introduces new operational risks alongside its productivity benefits.
Pursuing the Vision of a Sci-Fi Style Digital Assistant
The update marks another step toward an ambient, highly capable personal assistant reminiscent of the operating system portrayed in the science-fiction film Her. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously invoked the movie as an inspiration when the initial version of ChatGPT Voice debuted in 2024. By granting the assistant direct access to communication channels and business tools, OpenAI aims to fundamentally reshape how people interact with computers, transitioning voice controls from passive question-and-answer exchanges to active digital delegation.
