OpenAI Overhauls ChatGPT with Collaborative Workspaces, Automated Workflows, and Enterprise Marketplace
At DevDay, OpenAI unveiled a sweeping expansion of ChatGPT, introducing collaborative tools like Space and Pages, third-party integrations for Slack and Teams, and new enterprise developer features.

OpenAI Reimagines ChatGPT as a Collaborative Platform
OpenAI has announced a major transformation of ChatGPT at DevDay, expanding the service from a conversational chatbot into an interactive productivity environment and operating platform. The company is opening up its internal plugin systems to third-party developers, introducing shared workspaces and collaborative canvas tools, and adding direct integrations into mainstream enterprise software.
The update also revamps OpenAI's business models, introducing new subscription tiers, an enterprise marketplace, and an identity layer that enables users to spend ChatGPT usage quotas across external software tools.
Spaces, App Plugins, and Cross-Platform Workflows
The rollout introduces several new productivity features geared toward team collaboration. "ChatGPT Space" serves as a dedicated hub where teams can organize files, conversations, and projects on web and desktop, with a mobile rollout planned later. Inside Space, a new automated assistant named "Dot" surfaces relevant context and delegates operations to other agents. Alongside Space, OpenAI introduced "Pages," a collaborative document environment where users and AI agents can co-author text, research topics, generate diagrams, and visualize data. A companion tool called "Collaborative Slides," scheduled to launch in the coming weeks, will allow teams to build presentations from chats or templates and export them directly to Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides.
Beyond its own interface, OpenAI is embedding ChatGPT directly into existing workplace communication tools. Users can now summon the AI within Slack and Microsoft Teams channels, threads, or direct messages using "@ChatGPT" mentions without requiring an individual license. On macOS, a beta "Meetings Plugin" for Pro and Business users automatically transcribes and summarizes meeting audio into ChatGPT Space—with OpenAI stating that the underlying audio data is discarded immediately after summary generation.
On the developer side, OpenAI has launched Plugin Extensions, allowing outside engineers to build interactive panels and custom file viewers inside the ChatGPT interface. These tools are built using a revamped "Plugin Creator" and can be embedded into user-generated "Sites" with shareable profiles. To spearhead its creator initiatives, OpenAI recently hired Patreon co-founder Sam Yam.
For automations, the platform now supports the MCP Events specification across all tiers, letting plugins run background actions in response to connected apps, such as monitoring project boards. Business and Enterprise users can assign recurring workflows, such as automated Slack or email check-ins, to a feature called "Team Tasks."
OpenAI also reshuffled its subscription and distribution framework:
- New and Returning Tiers: A new "Pro 500" plan debuts with maximum usage limits and access to "Ultrafast" processing in ChatGPT and Codex. The $200 per month tier has also returned with an adjusted API allowance, reflecting OpenAI's goal to standardize flat-rate plans with API pricing.
- Sign in with ChatGPT: Plus and Pro subscribers can now use their ChatGPT accounts as an identity provider and spend their quota across 16 launch services, including Cognition's Devin, Notion, Vercel, T3, OpenClaw, and Dactyl.
- Enterprise Marketplace: Enterprise clients can allocate portions of their existing OpenAI contracts toward 32 integrated partner platforms, including Adobe, Figma, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Harvey, Legora, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, and Baseten.
Expanding Directly into Enterprise Software Turf
The suite of releases marks a strategic pivot for OpenAI, positioning ChatGPT against established software ecosystems such as Notion, Slack, and Google Workspace, as well as Microsoft’s own core Office suite.
The launch of Space and Pages also represents a return to team-focused functionality. OpenAI had previously tested multi-user shared chats before discontinuing the feature in July to streamline the product. By anchoring collaborative editing, identity management, and background agent tasks directly inside ChatGPT, the company is attempting to transition the tool from a standalone prompt window into the primary layer through which enterprise knowledge work is organized and executed.
