OpenAI Eyes $30 Billion Funding at $1.4 Trillion Valuation as Enterprise Revenue Soars
OpenAI is negotiating a massive $30 billion funding round at a $1.4 trillion valuation, backed by a $50 billion annualized revenue run rate and surging enterprise adoption.

OpenAI is actively pursuing at least $30 billion in fresh capital at a targeted pre-money valuation of $1.4 trillion, according to reports from Bloomberg. The massive fundraising effort comes as the company continues to see rapid top-line expansion, projecting that its annualized revenue rate will reach at least $70 billion by the end of 2026.
This development follows a previous funding round in March, where the company raised up to $122 billion at a post-money valuation of $852 billion.
Accounting Distinctions and Market Volatility
Financial disclosures around OpenAI's exact revenue recently prompted sharp reactions across tech and semiconductor markets. According to the Financial Times, OpenAI's annualized revenue rate stood at roughly $50 billion at the end of September. While earlier figures from Axios suggested the rate was nearing $70 billion, the difference stemmed from an accounting comparison with rival Anthropic.
The gap centers on how cloud partner sales are recorded under US GAAP standards:
- Anthropic recognizes the full customer payment as revenue when distributing through cloud partners and subsequently logs the provider's share as an expense. Its annualized rate reportedly crossed $65 billion in July.
- OpenAI records only its direct net share of revenue for specific partner arrangements.
The discrepancy depends on which entity maintains control over the direct customer relationship and product delivery. However, when the Financial Times clarified the $50 billion figure, chip stocks slipped by several percent, underscoring heightened investor sensitivity surrounding high-valuation AI frontrunners.
Enterprise Expansion Drives Revenue
Despite market fluctuations, OpenAI’s underlying business continues to expand rapidly, driven by corporate adoption. CNBC reported that overall annualized revenue grew 77 percent in the third quarter, with enterprise-specific revenue surging 107 percent.
At its DevDay event, OpenAI shared updated milestones reflecting massive product adoption:
- Over 1.2 billion people now use ChatGPT every week.
- More than 35 million weekly users actively engage with ChatGPT Work and the Codex programming assistant.
- Over 2.5 million businesses currently build on or deploy OpenAI products.
Much of this momentum has been fueled by enterprise tooling and competitive pricing maneuvers against Claude and Chinese alternatives, supported by releases such as the GPT-6.1-Sol model and the broader GPT-6 family.
IPO Timelines and Infrastructure Questions
The broader market anxiety also touches ongoing initial public offering (IPO) plans. Anthropic is moving cautiously on a potential public listing previously eyed for as early as November, while OpenAI has officially pushed its own public debut to next year. While CEO Sam Altman attributed the delay to safety risks, postponements were already underway prior to recent cybersecurity incidents, following reports in April that internal growth targets had been missed.
As OpenAI and its competitors commit vast capital to compute infrastructure and data center buildouts, the industry remains locked in debates over long-term sustainability. The viability of these trillion-dollar valuations will ultimately depend on whether commercial revenue and measurable productivity gains can outpace the soaring costs of running frontier artificial intelligence models.
