Apple Targets October 13th for Smart Home Hardware Reveal

Apple is preparing to introduce its long-anticipated smart home hub on October 13th, according to reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman via The Verge. The display marks a brand-new hardware category for the company and is slated to debut alongside an upgraded Apple TV and an updated HomePod mini.

Across all three devices, the primary showcase will be Siri AI, Apple’s redesigned artificial intelligence assistant, positioning the home as a core deployment ground for the company's upgraded voice and intelligence capabilities.

Hardware Specs, iMac G4 Design Cues, and Software Features

The centerpiece display will feature a 6-inch screen with bezels reminiscent of older iPad models, with an overall chassis roughly as thick as an iPhone. The hub will ship in Apple’s standard gray aluminum finish and lacks an internal battery, relying entirely on a USB-C power supply.

Apple has reportedly engineered two physical configurations for the device:

  • Countertop model: Evokes the classic iMac G4 design, using a round metal base packed with speakers and microphones connected to a metal arm that lets the display tilt.
  • Wall-mounted model: Features a slimmer base placed beneath the screen to house the speaker and microphone array.

The hardware runs a new operating system purpose-built for Siri AI that borrows structural elements from iPadOS, including a two-panel interface in the Messages app. The hub is designed to control connected smart home peripherals, initiate video calls, handle intercom announcements, stream audio, and display photo slideshows. To serve multi-person households, the device incorporates both facial and voice recognition to identify individual users and tailor experiences accordingly.

Anchoring Siri AI in the Living Space

The upcoming launch reflects a concerted effort by Apple to establish a dedicated, interactive screen for domestic environments. While Apple has previously relied on smart speakers like the HomePod and set-top boxes like the Apple TV to manage HomeKit setups, this dedicated hub provides a visual, always-available touchpoint designed to give Siri AI a persistent presence in the home.
